Fashion Repeats

When Christmas shopping I came across a book with the title along the lines of, Fashion Disasters Through The Years – what we wore but we shouldn’t off. As I looked through the book yes I did see some fashion disasters such as kipper ties and platform shoes.

But most of the fashion disasters were currently in fashion or had been sometime in the last two years. For example drain pipes that were worn by the skinheads and the teddy boys have recently returned to the catwalks with the new name of skinny jeans. These jeans have been in the height of fashion for a couple of years now, seen on celebrities such as Kate Moss. The skinny jean trend swept the nation and now can be purchased in all fashion shops.

So are these really fashion disasters? Yes and no. The skinny jean doesn’t suit everyone but I wouldn’t call it a disaster.

Floral dresses were another fashion disaster in the book and yet again these were

highly fashionable just a few months ago in the summer. Kate Mosses summer Topshop range featured them and they flew off the hanger.

So what is the future of fashion? Are we set to just repeat and redo. It looks that way, recently with 80’s fashion earlier this year; the question is what’s next? I’m just hoping it not lycra.

Who Will Be Number 1?

Coming from a Christmas lover I was trilled Listening to Radio 1’s Official Chart show on Sunday with Fearne and Reggie to hear all the Christmas songs which have re entered back into the charts. Downloads have changed the way the chart works completely.

This has been made possible since the chart show rules changed in 2006, to including downloads as well as the brought c.d’s; meaning every download now counts towards the charts. Since then many previous chart toppers have again reach the top 40.

And this week 8 classic Christmas hits have re entered the charts with Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is you reaching number 8! Other great Christmas classics which have re-entered include Wham!'s Last Christmas and Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.

I don’t think the chart has even been so dominated with one theme, especially such a great theme like Christmas - with one in five places taken by a Christmas song. So could a classic even make a Christmas number 1? With still 2 weeks till Christmas the songs could rise further in the charts and we may see even more enter.

So could the potential X factor winner have a threat for its expected Christmas number 1 spot? For the last two years the X factor winners have taken the Christmas number 1 spot. (2005 Shane Ward and last year Leona Lewis) and it has come expected that they will become number 1. But whoever wins (come on Rhydian!!) will have a lot of competition not only from the other great selection of Christmas songs but also the old classics. But have we had enough of the x factor now?

X factor Rhydian has been given the odds of 4-11 from the bookies to steal the top spot with his version of Mariah Carey’s When You Believe. This is an even stronger position than last year’s winner Leona Lewis.

This year’s contenders even include an animated sheep. Shaun the Sheep from Wallace and Gromit will release a novelty Christmas single. Could he make number one? I honestly don’t know, if Bob the Builder could, why can’t Shaun? I personally want it to be a good old classic Christmas tune.

The 2 Week Countdown

With 14 shopping days left till Christmas the hunt to find a good Christmas present is running out, or should we say just the hunt to find something is running out.

It happens to the best of us, at sometime in our lives we receive an awful present and what do we do, smile. I think I’m rather fortunate, as I never have had a really memorably bad present.

Since moving into my flat in September with a six strangers, after four months we are starting to get along and as Christmas approached so did the idea of a secret Santa. So in go the strips of paper with our names and who did I pull out, the person I know the least, obviously. Don’t get me wrong, I love the secret Santa idea, only having to buy one present rather than six will always be a good thing. But what should you buy? I think the best thing to buy is a general gift. You know something all students will love, for example food or booze. Its true you can never go wrong with chocolates.

So what do you do if you get a bad present? Well you could save it and give it to your uncle for his birthday but do you really want him to think that you would have brought such a bad gift. My answer is eBay. People will buy anything; I mean anything on there. When researching I found somebody had bid on a ghost in a jar. So why not make yourself a bit of extra cash in the New Year and my advice to you is sell your crap presents on.

Girl Power Is Back!

It was in June this year the Spice Girls announced their reunion tour and it kicked off on Sunday the 2nd wowing fans and critics. It was the first time in nine years all five girls had performed together in a full concert.

The girls were a phenomenal success more than a decade ago and sold more than 55 million records around the world, cause lets to be honest at the time everyone loved them. It was in 1998 when Geri tragically left the band due to 'differences'. With rumours of massive girl power spats, the girls soon separated (never official split), leaving them all going solo. But the girls just weren't as spicey on their own.

Now, how they have changed......

The girls looked grown up and classy as they performed 22 of their greatest songs, including some solo material too. The show was described as colourful, energetic and wildly ambitious, received great reviews from fans as well as the critics. I have always been a big fan and am counting the days till the tour hits London. But by then will all the girls' energy have ran out? After a grand total of over 40 dates across the world, I worry they might just get bored. Everyone spoke about the first show and how much energy they had, but it was there first show what did we expect? All I can do, is hope not.
